§ 15.09.060. Street and road naming system.

  • All streets and roads that serve two or more properties shall be named regardless of whether the ownership is public or private. A street and road name assigned by the city and county of Butte-Silver Bow shall not constitute or imply acceptance of the street and road as a public way nor as dedicated for maintenance or any other purpose. The following criteria shall govern the naming system:

    A.

    No two streets or roads shall be given the same name within a community (e.g., no Pine Road and Pine Lane).

    B.

    No two streets or roads should have similar-sounding names (e.g., Beech Street and Peach Street).

    C.

    Each street and road shall have the same name throughout its entire length.

    D.

    Streets and roads shall not be named after names of family members, living persons, prominent public officials or private individuals.

    E.

    Street and road names shall not use special characters such as hyphens, apostrophes or dashes.

    F.

    Each street and road name shall include one street or road type indicator as defined by NENA (i.e., street, avenue, way, loop, boulevard, etc.).

    G.

    No street or road name shall contain more than one street or road type as defined by NENA (e.g., Crescent Loop Road).
